For the DISC diagnostic I got a S-c. This result is a pretty accurate in determining my management type. S is for Steadiness, this type of people are more predictable. They work best in situations that are stable, consistent, and controlled. It’s good for teamwork as S types are very patient and cooperative. The C for conscientiousness shows that I like structure and rules. I am cautious about following regulations. I don’t like to be impulsive, it takes me a while to make certain decisions because I’m usually thinking and analyzing (sometimes maybe more than is necessary). The S and C are pretty closely correlated so it makes sense that I would have bit of both.
I do wish that I could be more of a D at times. In certain situations, you do have to be more aggressive in order to get things done the way you feel would be best. I think it would be pretty difficult to become another type if you have been a certain type for most of your life. But I do think certain skills from each type can be develop as one matures and gets more experience within a management opportunity. Going from a S or C to a D or I comes with building your confidence which comes from just being in more situations where you have to step up and take charge. Going from a D or I to more of a S or C also comes with time. As you mature and gain experience in different types of situation, you will see that rules or cooperation and such are necessary to accomplish certain tasks.
Knowing people’s management type could be helpful to an extent because if you know how or what type of environment they work better in, it can help in your interactions. It can help knowing what approach might work better and how to get people to do their best.

I definitely agree that as you mature and get more experience in a certain field it would become easier to become more dominant. Once you get comfortable and achieve proficiency in a skill or line of business, the transition to a "D" will be very smooth and you will be able to successfully, aggressively lead your team.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that as you get placed in certain situations you can make that leap to be a "D" or take it down a notch to be a "S". If you can imagine yourself as someone different, you will always remain the same and not grow as a person.
ReplyDeleteHi, I agree with Candices comment you always have the ability to change your roles from S to a D, I believe that the best managers are able to do so. After working with you this semester I tryly believe that the test accurately described your management skills. I sometimes wish that I could be more of an S, I tend to have this dominant personality that makes me want to control things at all times. I believe that it is good to go back and forth depending on what the team that you are managing needs. Good luck in your future managing!
ReplyDeleteI guess that was the point of the exam, to text what type you are and improve on it. Since you wanted to be more a D, you now what what you must do.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that in a lot of other people's posts, they also want to be more of a D type, and I agree with you that it can be achieved through maturity and experience. It can also be that one day a certain situation might trigger you enough and you'll gain the confidence to be more aggresive.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you wanting to be more of a D at times because it can help you in certain situations. It gets things done faster, without the fair of it being to risky. A characteristic that C has is that C's analyze to much and it causes decision making take longer, hence having slow results.I do agree that with time, that can some what change and you can gain certain skills that will help you become a better manager.
ReplyDeletelike everyone else, I sometimes wish I was more of a D type of person. I show some of the traits but do not exude the confidence of a D person. As you said, if one gets more experience, then you might be able to transform you personality.
ReplyDeleteAfter working with you during some of the class activities, I agree that you are a very cautious person. I've noticed that you like to follow the guidelines and rules. Also, I think a D personality is definitely obtainable, so good luck!
